The Houghton Belaire HB3400 48V DC AEOLUS is a rooftop reverse cycle caravan air conditioner designed for 48V battery systems. It operates directly from a suitable 48V DC supply, making it well suited to modern off-grid caravan and motorhome electrical systems.

 

Designed for 48V Off-Grid Systems

Unlike a conventional 230–240V caravan air conditioner, the AEOLUS H3400 operates directly from 48V DC. In a correctly designed 48V electrical system this can remove the need for a large dedicated DC-to-AC inverter for the air conditioner and help reduce conversion losses.

 

Built for Off-Grid Caravan and RV Use

The Houghton Belaire HB3400 48V DC AEOLUS is designed for caravans, motorhomes and campervans using a 48V electrical system. With approximately 3.2kW of cooling capacity and 2.8kW of reverse cycle heating, it is suitable for a wide range of touring and off-grid applications.

The manufacturer recommends the HB3400 for vehicles up to approximately 7 metres / 22 feet in length, subject to vehicle layout, insulation, climate and installation conditions.

A variable-speed twin-rotor DC compressor provides smooth, efficient operation with low starting current, reduced vibration and softer compressor start-up compared with traditional fixed-speed systems.

Reverse Cycle Heating and Cooling

Installation Requirements

The roof structure must be suitable to support the air conditioner. A standard 360 × 360mm roof opening is required, with an optional adaptor available for 400 × 400mm openings.

The manufacturer specifies a minimum 8 AWG power cable. Cable sizing must also take account of cable length and installation conditions. The installation manual specifies a 60A circuit breaker for power isolation and circuit protection.

Installation and maintenance must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable wiring requirements.
