How to handle and store composite panels?

Our Composite Panels are ‘made to order’ and will still be curing when you receive them. There are a few important points to follow to ensure they remain in pristine condition when you have finally assembled your caravan.

Handling
  1. Composite Panels should never be dragged on edge as delamination can occur due to excessive force tearing the laminate away from the core.
  2. Appropriate personal safety equipment should be worn when handling Composite Panels.
  3. Avoid unnecessary bending of panels when handling them – ensure you have enough staff when handling large panels. DIY Tip: Consider making a timber rack with supports every metre to lean panels onto if you cannot store panels flat on the floor
Storage
  1. Composite Panels should always be stored either directly vertical or preferably laid on a flat horizontal surface free from contaminants.
  2. Do not allow moisture to be trapped in between the panels or protective coverings.
  3. Composite Panels should never be stored in direct sunlight as post curing and warping could occur prior to permanently mechanically / adhesive fixing the panel into position.
  4. Avoid unnecessary bending of panels when handling them – ensure you have enough staff when handling large panels.

DIY Tip – Using two creeper trolleys to move panels around vertically makes it easy

DIY Tip – Preparing panels is easier if they are supported horizontally on tressles or milk crates. Use old carpet to protect the gel coat surface

Contaminants
  1. Composite Panels should be protected from all contaminants, such as dust, oil and grease, debris, waxes, water, condensation, uncured glue etc…
