Appliances such as air-conditioning units, microwaves and washing machines generally need a 240 volt electric supply. The relevant Australian Standard is AS/NZS 3000 and 3001 which applies to ‘transportable vehicles and structures’. 240 volt electrics must only be worked on and certified by a licensed electrician.
Caravan 240 volt installations are different to those found in a house in a number of ways
a. The chassis must be earthed, together with all power points and appliances
b. A double pole circuit breaker must be installed for each circuit in your RV and is wired with both the ‘live’ and ‘neutral’ so both are disconnected when the circuit is broken
c. All switches to appliances and sockets are also double pole
